MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- A burglary crew tied to a string of break-ins across Southeast Texas has been taken down, authorities announced.
The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office said the investigation started after deputies connected a suspect vehicle from a burglary at a Shell gas station in The Woodlands to its owner, Tyrese Nicholas. As investigators dug deeper, they said they discovered the same vehicle and suspects were also linked to a burglary at a Tractor Supply store in Conroe that happened the same night.
From there, investigators said they uncovered a multi-county crime spree spanning across Montgomery, Harris, Walker, and Grimes counties. The suspect vehicle was eventually located in Houston, and the group was also connected to burglaries in Navasota, Huntsville, and Willis, authorities said.
MCSO said deputies pursued the burglary ring suspects on March 3 and learned they had just committed a burglary in Grimes County. Angel Ponce was arrested for evading arrest in that pursuit, deputies said.
On April 9, the MCSO Crime Reduction Unit worked with the Conroe Police Department and conducted a traffic stop on two vehicles associated with the burglary ring, authorities said. Deputies said they identified all occupants and recovered stolen property from a Hunsville burglary, including tobacco products and clothing worn while the crime was being committed.
Arrest warrants were secured for six people on charges of organized criminal activity. All six suspects are from the Houston area and have been taken into custody, authorities said.
The burglary ring is responsible for approximately $25,000 in stolen property, including power tools, hand tools, cigarettes, clothing, and other tobacco products, authorities said.
